Our hope is that the everyday citizen can benefit from becoming involved in this company,” said Parker.

ABC Real Estate’s board of trustees for each home is made of up five individuals, said Parker, and while only one beneficiary lives in the home each member owns a share of the home’s trust. Each trust’s contract is negotiated by board members and overseen by a lawyer, said Parker.

Parker said the advantage is a person with bad credit can live in a home they would otherwise not qualify for and when they eventually purchase the home they already live in the price is reduced.

“This is for people who can’t buy the homes they want, who can’t sell their home or who want to be investors. Almost everybody can benefit from this company,” said Parker.

ABC Real Estate is the second company in Utah that handles real estate transactions using land trusts, said Parker.

“Would you rather get 30% on a home you can’t sell or nothing?” said Parker.

For additional information on ABC Real Estate or beneficiary-directed equity-based land trusts, contact Preston Parker or visit www.abcrealestatellc.com.

Boiler Plate
ABC Real Estate LLC was founded in August 2008 in Logan, Utah and was formed based off of ideas of similar companies in Salt Lake City, Utah and California. ABC Real Estate LLC uses beneficiary-directed equity-based land trusts, first made popular in the 1970s during economic decline, to facilitate the growth of the real estate market.

Contact Information
Jon Dalton
435.513.1892
Jon.dalton@aggiemail.usu.edu

#####

For Immediate Release
Date: January 9, 2009
Contact: Preston Parker, President
Company Name: ABC Real Estate
Company Address: 123 Creative Way, Logan UT 84321
Company Contact:801.555.4567

Dear Sebastian,

As you know I am currently studying at Utah State University where I am dual majoring in Journalism and Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations and Spanish with a teaching emphasis. I am currently in my third year here and hope to graduate in May 2010.

Upon my first semester at USU I never dreamed that I would pursue a degree in Public Relations. I thought that Public Relations was a field of advertising and marketing and involved a relatively mundane work environment. However, I have since come to reconsider my previous conceptions of what is now a career avenue that I hope to pursue in the near future.

“Public Relations helps organizations and its publics adapt mutually to each other,” said the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). In other words, a Public Relations professional functions as the medium between an organization, group or individual to the public and media. Public Relations professionals can work on anything and everything from writing press releases to be released to a local paper for a fundraising event to briefing the President of the United States of America before a news conference regarding a recent political event. No company is too big or small to benefit from a properly educated PR professional.

Even within Public Relations there exist different avenues one can take in the field. The first, and probably most available to persons seeking to enter the field of Public Relations, is within an agency. Agencies often function as a business and wait for the people who need a professional to contact them, come in, do the work, and leave the person behind, hopefully in a better situation than when they first met. The second avenue is called external public relations in which a professional would counsel an individual or company on how to interact with outside sources, the media and other companies in order to achieve the objectives that have been set forth by the company. Many times, in cases like these, the professional(s) will come in with a team and devise a plan from start to finish of how to bring the company to where the CEO’s see it going from its current standpoint. Finally one can enter a field called internal public relations. In internal public relations professionals function within a company in order to educate all members of the company on company happenings and to keep every employee on the same page while growing the uniformity of the staff employed by the aforementioned company. This field is mostly seen on either a school district level or a large-scale company like Microsoft.

Honestly it is proving to be very challenging to me to perform to the best of my abilities. It has been difficult to learn how to rely so heavily on my team members for the success of our projects as a whole and grade, but I have grown through the experience. Public Relations is a field that is in constant change, renewal and reformation and, as such, will be a job that I can continue to grow in and at as time goes on. I am so excited to see where this takes me and thank you for all of your love and support as I embark on this incredible adventure in my life!

God Bless!

Jon Dalton

'Press Release to Stories' Section III

Overall, I enjoyed this project. It was interesting to see how different papers, all of which are highly read amongst American publics, utilized the information in their stories.

I chose the recent death of Carine Desir because I knew that it would have a high prominence in news stories because of the circumstances and vocality of the family. It was clear to me when I heard of the story that American Airlines would soon produce an official statement, probably in the form of a press release, to discern their stance on the course of events, functionality of the equipment, and training of the employees that were on the plane.

I found the press release from American Airlines on PR Newswire. It was very short and didn't exactly contain a plethora of information. While being relatively sparse, it did hit all of the major issues that they were being confronted with. They released quotes defending their employees and their equipment. American Airlines also extended condolences to the family of Desir.

The relevance of the press release to every story that was written about Desir's death was paramount. Since it is the resposibility of media to provide a neutral representation of the information they must show both sides of the story. American Airlines released one statement for media to use when writing their stories and, thus, they were required to utilize the information and quotes provided from the press release.

Although there were no testimonials of the passengers aboard the flight, the spokesperson for American Airlines was right on target in the information they disclosed, neither confirming nor denying the course of events as according to Wilson, Desir's cousin. The goal of the press release was publication, to show that the airline is putting effort into investigating the problem and they were sympathetic towards the family.

This assignment taught me a lot about the purpose of press releases in today's media. With stories being able to be released for the world to see within only a few minutes of an event occuring, it is important that an official word is given out by both parties as quick as possible. American Airlines was smart to disclose necessary information but nothing above or beyond that. They handled a crisis situation with care.

'Press Release to Stories' Section II

New York Times
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/25/nyregion/25flight.html?scp=2&sq=carine+desir&st=nyt

The article tells the story of Carine Desir, a 44 year old woman, who died on American Airlines flight 896 from Haiti to New York. She had a history of health problems and medical experience, she was a nurse.

The article's headline was "Woman, 44, Dies on Plane With 2 Empty Oxygen Tanks". It included a play by play of events according to her cousin who was traveling with her and there are numerous statements within the article that discredit the actions of American Airlines, their employees and the emergency equipment that was aboard the aircraft.

The tone of the article is difficult to define. The headline is clearly negative and places blame on American Airlines for the death of this woman due to natural causes. The reader, unconsciously, assumes throughout the entire article that the airline is at total fault for Desir's death. The author never included text from the press release that American Airlines released or any quotes from any interaction with the top executives of the airline. American Airlines was framed very negatively by the New York Times in this instance.

It is important to note that the plane left Haiti and was headed for New York City so, in a sense, this could be a local issue. The JFK airport in New York City is a major international airport and is utilized by American Airlines frequently.

Fox News
http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2008Feb25/0,4670,FlightDeath,00.html

The article posted in regards to the death of Carine Desir by Fox News had a very positive connotation towards the airline throughout the entire story. It defended the airline and their actions as being proper according to protocol and included statements from spokespeople of the airline.

The headline read "Airline Defends Conduct in Woman's Death" which is directly related to the press release American Airlines put out. It made direct reference to the testing of the oxygen tanks before the take-off and the proper functioning of the defibrillator that was included in the press release by the airline.

The tone of the article is positive. They defend the actions of the employees and give a very specific course of events throughout the flight and state that the flight attendants followed protocol in the response to complaints by the passenger. Fox even went as far to explain the response of the medical professionals and that the functionality of the equipment may have had nothing to do with the success of the treatment because oxygen is not usually used when treating diabetes.

Fox is usually a more conservative network. It is clear that they put more effort into the sources they used within their stories and got a variety of quotes from a variety of different people including the cousin, spokesperson for the airlines and medical examiners office and a variety of other people of prominence within the story.

ABC News http://abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/BusinessTravel/story?id=4340293&page=1

ABC's coverage of the death of Carine Desir aboard an American Airlines flight is clearly on the side of the airline. The article has direct references to the press release that was put out by the airlines defending the actions and training of their employees and even makes another reference to a quote from the airline that was probably given during a press conference shortly after the incident occured.

The overall tone of the article is positive towards the airline and negative towards Oliver, Desir's cousin who was traveling with her. Specifically, in the beginning of the article the author, Scott Michels, uses the word "claimed" when retelling the story according to Oliver. This may only be the use of one word but it discredits the validity of any and all statements that Oliver is making calling them claims and, thus, not based on any truth.

Michels defended American Airlines throughout the entire article, even stating that the doctors aboard the plane weren't sure that treatment, even if applied immediately, could have saved the woman's life. The reason why oxygen was not administered immediately following the complaint is because the flight attendant followed protocol and went to report to the chief attendant aboard the flight. Upon their return to the woman she was struggling to breathe and treatment began as fast as possible after that.

ABC news clearly chose to back American Airlines in all of their decisions aboard the flight that day. It had a very positive tone throughout the entire article.

'Press Release to Stories' Section I

American Airlines Statement Regarding Death of Passenger

FORT WORTH, Texas, Feb. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Airlines
is very saddened over the death of passenger Carine Desir on Flight 896
from Haiti to New York's JFK Airport last Friday and extends its deepest
sympathy to the grieving family.

We are investigating this incident, as we do with all serious medical
situations on board our aircraft, but American Airlines can say oxygen was
administered and the Automatic External Defibrillator was applied.

Among the preflight duties of our highly trained Flight Attendants is a
check of all emergency equipment on the aircraft. I am passionate about my work.
a. Work that lacks passion fails to succeed.
    b. I have always found jobs that interest me, when my interest is at a high my attitude, productivity, and dedication all increase to make me a better employee
    c. I believe in 'Phish Philosophy', the environment you create at work is essential to the success of the company, employee's, and consumer. It creates opportunities for growth.

2. I am honest.
    a. Honesty, integrity and a solid code of ethics are absolutely essential in today's school systems, and, in some cases, it is lacking.
    b. I will be clear with my students and coworkers about my intentions and expectations in and out of the classroom and office.
    c. I am a firm believer in the value of face to face communication in both praise and conflict and it will to strengthen a school environment to be open and honest with the staff and student body.

3. I value education.
    a. Education of individuals shapes the future, it is impossible to put any numeric value on the importance of educating the next generation.
b. As an educator, I can influence and effect the lives of my students for the rest of their lives, it is important to establish myself as a positive and strong influence.
c. I believe education is more than percentages and grades, its pushing young people to grow into responsible adults. The best educators teach about life first, then through life students learn the subject.

Positioning 'You' Section II

OBJECTIVES

OUTPUT GOAL

I. I will involve myself in campus and national organizations in order to gain a better understanding of the education administration field.

The National Association of College and University Residence Halls Incorporated (NACURH) is a student led organization that regularly produces educational administrators within its participants. The intermountain affiliate of this organization, IACURH, has opportunities to allow for undergraduate students to obtain national leadership positions. I would like to obtain the support of USU’s Residence Life program and be elected to a regional leadership position that would allow me to run for office on the national level before I graduate.

IMPACT GOALS

I. I will gain acceptance into a graduate program that will enable me to pursue a career in education administration with the proper qualifications prior to my graduation date.

The top ranked university for people pursuing careers with student involvement and administration is Western Illinois University. They accept only 25 applicants per year into this program and have an upwards on 90 percent job placement within six months at a post-secondary institution. The University of Utah also has a program which is highly respected on the national level.

II. By 2010, I will increase my involvement on Utah State University's campus in order to gain a better understanding of the field and to build a network of resources to utilize.

There are many organizations and resources that have become available to students within post-secondary educational institutions that encourage them to pursue careers in education administration. I will pursue involvement with the Associated Students of Utah State University (ASUSU), the student government institution on campus. In addition, I will continue to pursue involvement within Residence Life at USU. I will involve myself in leadership opportunities that can offer me an opportunity to grow and improve as a worker. Through these experiences I will gain a network of people that I can utilize when applying for jobs after graduate school.

III. I will make contact with at least 10 current professionals in the field at 10 different locations by the time I enter graduate school.

Through my involvement within NACURH Inc. and Utah State University I will have the opportunity to meet and network with professionals in education administration at the regional and national conferences. I will dedicate myself to working hard within these organizations and getting contact information of at least ten individuals that are employed at ten different institutions. These contacts will eventually develop into professional relationships and job opportunities.

Positioning 'You' Section I

It is my dream to leave this world better than I left it. I have a passion for people and for learning; this has encouraged me to enter into a career in educational administration. In order to do this I need to attend graduate school to pursue a degree in student involvement or student administration.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, excellent opportunities are expected to arise in educational administration since a large proportion of education administrators are expected to retire within the next 10 years. I plan to be entering into the job market within the next five to six years, after obtaining two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree. This time frame will allow me to enter into the job market, gain experience in the teaching field and pursue an administrative position. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that it is necessary to gain experience in a classroom and perform well with interpersonal communication.

The field of education administration is expected to grow 12 percent between 2006 and 2016, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
